Rotherham and Hearts race to sign former Aston Villa ace Young

A host of clubs including Rotherham, Hearts and German side Augsburg are tracking The New Saints hotshot Brad Young, sources have told Football Insider. Young, 21, has caught the eye for Cymru Premier side TNS this season, scoring 23 goals in 27 games across all competitions. His prolific form has alerted many clubs – with Rotherham, Hearts and Augsburg among those making regular checks. Young is a product of the Aston Villa academy and was a member of the side that won the 2020-21 FA Youth Cup. He was released by Villa in June 2023 and went on trial at Exeter City in the following month, but wasn’t offered a deal. Young only joined TNS on transfer deadline day last summer (2023) – with the Welsh side confirming they had beaten English sides to his signature. While under contract at Aston Villa, he went out on loans to Carlisle United and Ayr United but couldn’t find his goalscoring touch. The 21-year-old made one senior appearance during his time at Villa – a substitute cameo in an FA Cup loss against Liverpool in 2021.
