Blackburn Rovers attacker returns from spell away amid loan update

Blackburn Rovers let the winger join the National League outfit on a temporary basis in January to get some more experience under his belt. Walker, 21, went on to make three appearances for the Latics under former Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon. They have now confirmed on their retained list that he has gone back to Ewood Park. Blackburn Rovers have a big decision to make regarding the future of Walker this summer. He is out of contract in late June and is due to become a free agent as things stand. The Preston-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Preston North End and was a regular for his local team at various youth levels. He played twice for the Lilywhites’ first-team and had loan spells away from Deepdale at Altrincham, Stalybridge Celtic, Carlisle United and AFC Fylde to get some experience under his belt. Blackburn Rovers then snapped him up on a permanent basis in 2022 and he penned a two-year deal. However, he hasn’t played for the senior team. Image courtesy of: JASON CAIRNDUFF/REUTERS. Walker was loaned out to Morecambe in League Two for the first-half of this campaign and made 11 outings for the Shrimps before switching to Oldham Athletic. He wasn’t able to make much of an impact at Boundary Park though and they have missed out on the play-offs. Blackburn Rovers’ focus right now is on surviving in the Championship and they were beaten 3-1 at home by Sheffield Wednesday last time out. They are 19th in the table and are three points above the drop zone. Next up is a home clash against Coventry City this weekend before they face Leicester City away on the final day.
