Real Madrid to sign Joselu permanently for €1.5 million -report

Real Madrid are expected to complete the permanent signing of forward Joselu Mato from Espanyol for a fee of €1.5 million, according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana. The 34-year-old Spanish striker, who joined Los Blancos on loan last year, has impressed the club’s hierarchy with his performance and professionalism while scoring 18 goals in a reserve role this season.
Joselu, a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy, has come full circle in his career. After making his debut for the senior team in 2010, he spent over a decade honing his skills across various clubs in Spain, Germany, and England. His journey included stints at Hoffenheim, Hannover 96, Stoke City, and Newcastle United, before returning to La Liga with Alavés and subsequently Espanyol.
During his loan spell, Joselu demonstrated his value as a reliable option in attack, providing crucial goals and assists. His work ethic and experience have also been deemed invaluable for the club’s younger players.
This transfer is part of Real Madrid’s broader strategy to blend experienced veterans with emerging talents, aiming to solidify their position domestically and in European competitions. Joselu’s signing for a modest fee reflects a shrewd piece of business for the club as they prepare for the upcoming season.
