Thomas Tuchel confident ahead of Bayern Munich vs. Union Berlin

Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Union Berlin, head coach Thomas Tuchel shook off the the final cobwebs of his postgame celebration from Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Arsenal FC.
“The atmosphere in the dressing room was relieved. It’s nice when the joy is so great. I sat down afterwards to relax with the coaches and friends. Waking up you’re in good spirits, even if it was a short night, because we had training again the next day,” said Tuchel (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We want to prove our good form tomorrow. You have to celebrate moments like those against Arsenal. The schedule is crowded, the next away trip is already coming up. But the emotions after a game like that are special, that’s not something to be taken for granted. The team and I were able to enjoy. I’m glad that this is very important and part of it. We’ll prepare ourselves mentally and take on the game tomorrow. We still have something to do in the Bundesliga.”
The team is relatively healthy heading into the Bundesliga showdown vs. Die Eisernen, but there are some issues that Tuchel addressed.
“For Serge Gnabry it will be a race against time before the game against Real Madrid. With Leroy Sané it will be a race against the pain for Frankfurt and Real. We probably won’t take Leroy with us to Berlin, that’s very unlikely. We will sit down with the physios and the players this afternoon and see who is really pain-free. We’re going to Berlin to fight, fight and get three points,” said Tuchel.
One player, who could see field time this weekend is Thomas Müller, who did not see a single minute of action in the Champions League tie vs. Arsenal. Tuchel says that he understand that the veteran did not like sitting on the bench and that he hopes that the relationship the two have remains in tact.
“I hope our relationship is good and that it remains. Neither of us like the situation. He doesn’t like that he didn’t play and I don’t like that I had to tell him that. It was a sporting decision and no depreciation of his sporting status. He’s professional enough to put it behind him. He pushes in training and continues to enjoy being on the pitch,” Tuchel said.
During the last match with Union Berlin, there was a bizarre “shoving” altercation between Union Berlin head coach Nenad Bjelica and Leroy Sané, but Tuchel does not think there is any bad blood remaining.
“I’d forgotten about that. I’m pleased for my colleague that there was no further impact. It was a one-off. They’ve become more solid under him and taken a step forward.” Tuchel remarked.
When asked about the news that Julian Nagelsmann would not be taking over for him after the season, Tuchel, well, might be feeling himself a little bit. If the club came to him with the offer for a contract extension, Tuchel sounds like he would pass on it.
“That’s so much subjunctive. I have an agreement with the club [to part ways in the summer], it has been communicated and it stands,” Tuchel said. “I expected it when Rudi Völler extended as well. From the outside, I have the feeling they work well together. It gives the national team clarity, continuity and hopefully momentum for the Euros.” Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Union Berlin?
