Joshua Kimmich says revenge is not a factor for Bayern Munich ahead of Real Madrid clash

Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich remembers the bitterness that many felt back in 2017/18 when Real Madrid ousted the Bavarians from the Champions League semifinals.
Even with that memory still fresh, Kimmich does think revenue will be a factor in motivating the team.
“I don’t think that is a real revenge, because the two teams are totally different now. Of course there are some players who played in 2018. But it’s still already six years ago. A lot of time. We had to develop better, teams changed. There are two completely different matches now,” Kimmich said during an interview with Diario AS (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kimmich has a lot of respect for Real Madrid and knows this will be a special moment in his career.
“You can always see their big mentality and quality. They have a strong team, a lot of talent and beside that also a lot of experience. You can feel this, especially in important Champions League games. I think that in the matches against Leipzig, RB were maybe in summary the better team,” Kimmich said. “But in the end you can feel that Real are more experienced and they have something special with the Champions League. Two years ago, they were always down in a lot of games and they always could turn the games around at the end. That is something about quality, but also about mentality — and they have both. So we know that they have a strong team.”
Kimmich’s knack for rising his level of play during the most important matches is something that Bayern Munich will need to rely up on once more against Real Madrid like it did against Arsenal FC, where Kimmich scored a key goal.
Undoubtedly, the Germany international is seeking to experience that feeling again.
“For me personally, it was a really special moment (as against Arsenal). A really important goal for me. also for the team, for the club, for the fans, for everybody here in Munich. We are really, really happy to face Real Madrid in the semis. We have matured. Finally, we are there again. It was a big target of us, a big goal for us. We are really happy and proud to be there. But, now we know that there’s a really strong team waiting for us. We don’t want to waste this moment,” said Kimmich.
