Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea, Premier League: Post-match reaction, ratings

Aston Villa didn’t get out of second gear to easily beat drop two points against Chelsea tonight.
They scored inside of five minutes, then took a nap, then woke up (only after Jackson missed another open goal), and got a second just before half-time.
The second half was a non-event.
In fairness, we did try to make a decent go of it in the second half, and Madueke managed to effort himself a goal, even. Still, it never really felt like Villa were in any real danger of losing points — despite barely breaking a sweat.
But then a moment of magic from Conor Gallagher, left footed into the top corner made Villa pay for their ultimately lackadaisical showing.
And it was almost a most glorious comeback as Palmer had a chance to win it at the end, but couldn’t convert ... while VAR ruled out Disasi’s goal from the resulting corner for a push by Badiashile. Seen those go either way.

If you're willing to overturn the decision, foul or not, you must also suspend the referee for not calling this as a foul live, through sheer incompetence. There can be no other outcome. Look at where he is. pic.twitter.com/06TUBdbB3k — Chelsea Youth (@chelseayouth) April 27, 2024

If only the first half had gone a little better...
Carefree.

Three changes from Tuesday, with Palmer, Silva, and Chalobah coming in; plus a bench full of Academy kids (who never really had any hope of actually featuring anyway, as it turns out)
Still not mathematically out of European contention yet ... but we probably have to win out from here. Five games to go (Spurs H, West Ham H, Forest A, Brighton A, Bournemouth H). Doable — but only if we play like in the second half obviously
Next up: Spurs at home on Thursday
