Ipswich Town join Crystal Palace in pursuit of Arsenal man

Ipswich Town are keen on luring the attacker to Portman Road in the upcoming transfer window following their promotion from the Championship as they prepare for life in the Premier League. Nketiah, 24, has seen his game time dry up at the Emirates Stadium over recent times and is being linked with an exit ahead of next season. Image courtesy of: ANDREW COULDRIDGE/REUTERS. TEAMtalk claim the Tractor Boys have identified him as a potential target as they look to boost their ranks. The report adds that Crystal Palace are also in the frame for his signature and are ‘long-term’ admirers. Ipswich Town could see Nketiah as someone to add more quality to their options up front. They will need some reinforcements to their ranks as they look to be competitive in the top flight in the next campaign. The once-capped England international has been on the books at Arsenal since 2015 having previously been at Chelsea. Image courtesy of: PETER CZIBORRA/REUTERS. He has risen up through the ranks of the Gunners and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. Nketiah was loaned out to Leeds United back in 2017 under their former manager Marcelo Bielsa in the second tier to get some experience under his belt. However, that is the only time he has been loaned out by his current team. He has made 168 appearances for Arsenal’s first-team to date and has chipped in with 38 goals, six of which have come this term. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently aiming to win the title as they battle it out with Manchester City and the Lewisham-born man is mainly used as back-up these days. His contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in June 2027 meaning the Gunners are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer to come in for his services. It goes without saying that Ipswich Town need to ensure that they get their recruitment right over the next couple of months to give themselves the best chance of staying up. Kieran McKenna has got his signings spot on since taking over and will need to do the same again as he looks to help his players adapt to life at the top level. Nketiah is someone who would be a very eye-catching signing for the Tractor Boys if they could see off competition from rivals like Crystal Palace and he has proved he can score goals in the past. He needs to go somewhere where he is valued and he would definitely get a lot of minutes if he moved to Suffolk.
