Stockport County set sights on possible move for Leicester City forward

Leicester City are currently embroiled in the fight for promotion back to the Premier League but at academy level, the main focus will be on gearing up for the new season. Around this time of year, plenty of players will have been informed of their fates. Those who will be moving on are often allowed to head out on trials in a bid to earn deals elsewhere before becoming free agents in the summer. Image courtesy of: ANDREW BOYERS/REUTERS. Now, it has emerged that one of the Foxes’ youngsters has headed out on trial. As reported by Leicestershire Live, 21-year-old attacker and Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise has headed to League Two title winners Stockport County in a bid to catch the eye. He looks to have done that too, netting a hat-trick for their B team earlier this week against Brentford. The report adds that Maswanhise’s fate has not been confirmed yet, but he is considering options away from Leicester City as his contract moves closer and closer to its expiry date. Maswanhise will turn 22 in November and having played extensively at youth level, it’s about time he made the step up to senior football. It’s often the case that young prospects in his position need assurances of first-team minutes, be that at the King Power Stadium or out on loan. If Leicester City can provide that, then there can be a future for the youngster there. If not, then Maswanhise may be better off testing the water elsewhere. He’s looked a really bright talent in youth football, operating on the wing or through the middle as a striker. A player of his potential will have admirers if he is available, and Stockport County moving to bring him in on trial is a sign of what could be to come this summer. It could be a shrewd addition for the Hatters as they gear up for a rise to League One, but time will tell just what comes of his situation over the coming weeks and months.
