Arsenal's £26m Danilo deal could see Ismael Bennacer join Liverpool

According to Calciomercato, Bennacer is asking for around £65,000-a-week to extend a contract which runs out in the summer of 2024. That is far more than Milan are currently willing to offer ( Tuttomercatoweb). If a compromise between the two parties is to be reached, recent history tells us that it will be on the club’s terms. Not the player’s. Reduce your demands or pack your bags. That is the message AC Milan have sent out previously, and are likely to do again. Arsenal could sign Danilo as Liverpool target AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer At least, like Calhanoglu, Donnarumma and Kessie, Bennacer will not be short of offers if negotiations do run aground. The Algeria international, who started his career at Arsenal before moving to Italy with Empoli, reportedly has a £4 million-a-year deal on the contract from an as-yet unnamed Premier League club. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a firm admirer of the diminutive battle-axe, TMW adds. And while there is nothing to suggest that the aforementioned offer arrived from Anfield, Bennacer is certainly the kind of hard-running, all-action ball-winner Liverpool appear to be targeting. Ditto Moises Caicedo and Sofyan Amrabat. “I came across Ismael at Arsenal with the U19s,” recalls Gunners legend and former coach Thierry Henry (CBS Sport). “He’s very much a defensive midfielder. What I like about him is that he will look to pass the ball forward. The anticipation; he never gives up. And he is trying all the time to stop the opposition so he can go forward. “He is a very good player. I am happy for him. When you leave a big club like Arsenal, then you find yourself in a situation (where you think); ‘where am I going to go?’. He didn’t feel sorry for himself and he did find a way.” ‘He’s a very good player’ Bennacer has been linked with a return to North London too; Calciomercatoweb suggesting Arsenal may be taking a ‘better the devil you know approach’ to finding a player capable of easing the workload on Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka’s shoulders. But, even if Bennacer still has his admirers at the Emirates, Arsenal’s number one target remains Palmeiras starlet Danilo. And there is a growing confidence that £26 million could be enough to lure the 21-year-old Brazilian away from the Allianz Parque during the January window. Arsenal, IG Esporte say, are the favourites to secure Danilo’s signature ahead of Monaco and Ajax. The player himself, meanwhile, opened the door to a potential move away from Palmeiras in November; telling UOL that he feels ‘ready’ for a new challenge on the other side of the Atlantic. “I see myself as mature enough to play in any competition in the world,” Danilo admits. “I’m ready. “I give myself a 10/10. Palmeiras’ year was a 10, and so was mine. It was a wonderful year. I know that all players have ups and downs, as I had. But during both ups and downs, I didn’t change my way of playing and training. And I managed to end the year with five very good games.” Presuming Danilo does end up at the Emirates, this will remove one potential obstacle from Liverpool’s path as they look to lure Bennacer back to England.
