Report: Juventus, Michele Di Gregorio agree to personal terms

There will be a point in which Wojciech Szczesny, the man who has been Juventus’ starting goalkeeper for the better part of the last decade, will no longer be the one who rocks the No. 1 jersey. The thing is, those of us on the outside looking don’t totally know when that day may arrive.
But it looks as though Juve might be preparing for that day as the summer quickly approaches.
According to Italian transfer reporter Nicolo Schira in Friday’s edition of Tuttosport, Juventus and Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio have been in talks over a contract following a summit between the two clubs to discuss potential transfers earlier in the week. The talks between Juve and the 26-year-old keeper’s representatives have so far as the two sides have the framework of a long-term contract agreed upon, with Di Gregorio agreeing to a salary of €2 million plus bonuses
Previous reports suggest that Monza could ask for as much as €20 million for Di Gregorio, who has been one of the best keepers in Serie A the past two seasons. As we will hear for a lot of potential deals involving Juve this summer, Cristiano Giuntoli could use a player or two to try and bring down the transfer fee, with Monza having interest in Moise Kean and Fabio Miretti during past transfer windows. The line of thinking when it comes to the pursuit of Di Gregorio is something that we’ve seen happen at Juventus before. And it just so happens to have involved Szczesny.
Reports over the past couple of months have said that Juventus want to try and spread Szczesny’s salary — which is one of the biggest at the club at €6.5 million net — over two seasons by signing him to a one-year extension through 2026. That would likely mean that Szczesny’s backup for the last couple of years, Mattia Perin, is leaving the club this summer as he potentially seeks regular playing time once again as he gets closer to his mid-30s. And with Perin gone, that would allow Juve to zero in on Di Gregorio to serve as Szczesny’s backup much in the same kind of fashion that Tek was for one season before Gigi Buffon headed to Paris Saint-Germain.
As things stand right now, both Szczesny and Perin are signed through 2025.
Di Gregorio, according to Tuttosport, has also garnered interest from both Milan clubs — he is a former Inter Milan youth product — as well as Premier League side Newcastle.
