Manchester City’s Shaw Out For Rest of Season

Manchester City Women have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the WSL title after prolific striker Bunny Shaw was ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury. Shaw, who has bagged 21 WSL goals this season, went off at half-time during Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of West Ham, and was later seen on crutches with her foot in a protective boot.
The news will come as a hammer blow to City, who have been flying at the top of the league this season with their Jamaican star leading the line. Her two goals against the Hammers on Sunday put her eight goals clear of Chelsea’s Lauren James in the race for the Golden Boot, but, sadly, the blues will now have to see the rest of the season out without her.
Of course, City still have an abundance of talent who can take over from Shaw, with Chloe Kelly itching to get her place in the side back and Mary Fowler, who can come in from the wing to take centre stage as City go for their final push towards league success.
Shaw has been struggling in recent weeks and it was hoped that the recent international break would help her recover. However, despite her two goals on Sunday, it was clear she couldn’t continue, and a scan earlier in the week identified the injury.
Manager Gareth Taylor confirmed that Shaw’s incredible season was over in his press conference before City’s match at relegation candidates Bristol City. “We have an issue with Bunny, she’s sustained a foot injury which will keep her out of the game for certain and potentially longer.
“It’s such a difficult one for Bunny because she’s had an incredible season. We had a feeling it might be an issue when she came off the pitch [against West Ham] even though it was non-contact.
“She’ll be well looked after by the medical team.”
Let’s hope Bunny comes back stronger next season when City (hopefully) start the defence of the WSL title.
