Coventry City “want to go all the way” in the FA Cup after they sensationally knocked Wolves out of the competition with two stoppage time goals on Saturday.
The Sky Blues missed a host of good chances at Molineux, but were leading 1-0 after 83 minutes. The game then erupted with drama once Rayan Ait Nouri got the equaliser, as Hugo Bueno subsequently scored to put the hosts ahead.
Mark Robins’ men were not to be denied, however. Former Everton striker Ellis Simms popped up in the box to score in the 97th minute to level matters.
The game seem destined for extra time at that point, but Coventry worked the ball into the box once more to enable Haji Wright to curl a lovely finish into the far corner of the net and break Wolves’ hearts at the death.
“A great occasion, Simms told ITV Sport after the final whistle. “The fans have been amazing and we’re just delighted. I’m so proud of the lads, we’ve dug in and even at 2-1 down we never gave up.
“It’s going to be a great occasion at Wembley. We want to go all the way. The next round will be tough against a top Premier League team but we will give it our all and go in with all guns blazing.”
Match-winner Wright added: “There’s a lot of quality in our side and as long as we believe and keep trying, we can take our chances. It’s amazing to make it to Wembley and it will be good fun for all of us. Hopefully we can enjoy it [today] and then get back to work.
“Both me and Ellis didn’t have amazing starts here but he [boss Mark Robins] believed in us and now we are in a spot where we can show ourselves.”
Coventry will now enter the FA Cup semi-finals for just the second time in their history. The last time they got this far they won the whole tournament in 1987.
